How to store research peptides — lyophilizate and solution

How you store a research material decides whether it keeps its properties. The rules differ for the lyophilized form (powder) and for the solution after reconstitution.

Lyophilizate (powder)

Lyophilized material is relatively stable. It tolerates room temperature for the duration of transit, which is why shipments do not require cooling. For longer storage a refrigerator or freezer is best, always away from light and moisture. The lower the temperature and the less exposure to light, the longer the material retains its quality.

Solution after reconstitution

Once dissolved in bacteriostatic water, store the solution in a refrigerator (2–8°C). Under these conditions it usually remains usable for around 4 weeks. The solution is more sensitive than the powder, so reconstitute only as much as you will realistically use within that period.

Most common mistakes

  • Repeated freezing and thawing — every cycle lowers quality. If you freeze, consider splitting into smaller portions.
  • Light exposure (UV) — accelerates degradation. Store in the dark or in opaque packaging.
  • High temperature — heat is the main enemy of stability; do not leave material in a sunlit place.

How to check the parameters of a specific substance

Detailed storage conditions for a given substance are on its SDS safety data sheet. For concentration conversions after reconstitution use the calculator, and you will find more practical material in the knowledge base.

Frequently asked questions

Does lyophilizate have to be kept in a refrigerator?
For the duration of transit lyophilizate tolerates room temperature. For longer storage it is best kept in a refrigerator or freezer, away from light.
How long does a solution last after reconstitution?
Usually around 4 weeks in a refrigerator (2–8°C). The solution is more sensitive than the powder, so it is worth reconstituting only the amount you need.
Can material be frozen and thawed repeatedly?
Better to avoid it — every thaw cycle lowers quality. If it is unavoidable, split the material into smaller portions before freezing.
